'Sher' bigger than 'Tiger': Vivek takes dig at Salman

Taking a dig at Salman Khan [ Images ], Vivek Oberoi [ Images ] today said that 'Sher' is bigger than 'Tiger', referring to the titles of their upcoming movies.

Salman and Vivek are gearing up for their forthcoming projects Ek Tha Tiger and Sher respectively.

Vivek said, "We are all wild enthusiasts. And as far as my knowledge goes, I think 'Sher' is bigger than 'Tiger'."

Salman would be seen playing the role of a RAW agent in the Yash Raj film. The theatrical trailer has garnered a positive response.

The movie is directed by Kabir Khan [ Images ] and is slated to release in August.

Vivek's 'Sher' is an action-thriller directed by Soham Shah.

When reminded about Salman's other upcoming film titled Sher Khan, Vivek said, "It is a good thing... the city is filled with 'Sher(s)'."

The relationship between the two actors soured a few years ago after a huge fight over Aishwarya Rai [ Images ], when Vivek had called a press conference to say Salman had threatened him.

Vivek addressed the media recently on the sidelines of launching the 'Cigarette Bujhao Life Banao' campaign to mark World Tobacco Day.

On smoking habits of actors like Salman and Shah Rukh Khan [ Images ], Vivek said, "I know that they acknowledge that smoking is bad habit. But it's an individual decision."

Salman's big plans for 2013

Salman hasn't had a single release so far this year, but it looks like he's already planning his next year's big releases. Considering that the release date determines the kind of opening a big star film will register, it is learnt that the actor is scheduling his next film with Sooraj Barjatya for Eid 2013 and brother Sohail's next directorial venture for Christmas later in the year.

Buzz in the trade is that Salman is so upbeat about Bade Bhaiyya, Sooraj's next, his full fledged film with the Barjatya banner after Hum Saath-Saath Hain (1999) that he has decided to advance the production.

"Initially, Sooraj's film was to start in February next year. But now, Salman is so enthusiastic about the script and working again with his director buddy that he has decided to prepone it to November," says our source.

No run-in with Hrithik

Interestingly, Salman was first considering Diwali 2013 for Sooraj's film. But since Hrithik Roshan's superhero film has already fixed it as the release date, Khan decided to avoid a clash. As our source says, "Besides, it didn't make good business sense to face a division of collections when one can do without it."

Needless to say, the actor is eager to wrap up the Barjatya film by March. So they have ample time for post-production and consequently, aggressive promotion to release it on Eid next year. And after finishing this film, Salman will start working for Sohail's Sher Khan.

According to sources, "With Arbaaz's film scheduled to release this Christmas, Salman felt the need to block next year-end too. More so, since no other film has been scheduled for Christmast 2013.

Check out: Deepika Padukone’s hottest bikini moments

DEEPIKA GOES DISHY

Deepika Padukone is once again the talk of tinsel town, thanks to her bikini cameo in the promo of the coming film Cocktail.

The actress is seen sunbathing on a beach in a red bikini, her near-perfect figure making the two-piece cameo piping hot. Strangely, the actress hasn’t made many bikini appearances in Bollywood films, save for one in Housefull where she had her derriere covered with a wrap-around.

Her bikini appearance in Cocktail is touted as her first full-fledged bikini gig in a Bollywood film, but Deepika makes light of it.

She says the bikini was the demand of the scene which is set on a beach and she adds that there is a hell lot more to her character and the movie other than the bikini. Point taken.

Cocktail is directed by Homi Adajania and stars Saif Ali Khan in the lead role opposite Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty. The film has been shot in London, Spain and Delhi.

All the frenzy over Deepika’s bikini appearance in the film might surprise the actress herself, for she has done some sizzling photoshoots in bikini as a model before she graduated to films.

Check out some of Deepika Padukone’s hottest bikini moments ahead.

Shahrukh Khan slammed as ‘arrogant’ and ‘haughty’!

Shahrukh Khan
is still in the dock for allegedly smoking publicly inside a Rajasthan stadium during an IPL match of his team Kolkata Knight Riders a few weeks back. Even though the Bollywood superstar has been asked by a Jaipur court to appear before it on May 26, India’s premier anti-tobacco watchdog, NOTE, has slammed SRK as ‘arrogant’ and ‘haughty’.

Shekhar Salkar, General Secretary, NOTE (National Organisation for Tobacco Eradication), is quoted as saying this about Shahrukh Khan: “My main grievance is his arrogant demeanour with which he time and again decides to trample the law and smoke in places where he can be viewed and emulated by thousands of viewers when he can smoke privately.”

Citing the example of another Bollywood star Ajay Devgan, Salkar said that Devgan, unlike Shahrukh, was apologetic after being caught smoking in public.

“A similar incident happened with Ajay Devgn in Goa and after sending him a letter by NOTE, he was very gracious in accepting his mistake and his recent visits to Goa have not seen him smoking in public,” Salkar added.

Salkar doesn’t think that Shahrukh Khan, despite his promise to cut down on smoking and eventually kick it, will ever be able to leave the habit.

“In my personal opinion he would never be able to because of his all-knowing haughty persona,” Salkar said.

Salman Khan has always encouraged me: Sonakshi Sinha

"It was not intentional. I don't think anything that I do is intentional...It is just a coincidence as some films got delayed due to whatever reasons," Sonakshi Sinha told reporters here, adding that her second release Rowdy Rathore is coming before time.

"In fact, 'Rowdy Rathore' is releasing early...I have no complaints that I was not seen on screen for one-and-half years as I was busy shooting for all the films that I signed, doing advertisements and shows. So I have been working non-stop. Workwise it has been a good year-and-half for me," she added.

"Rowdy Rathore", directed by Prabhu Deva, will see Sonakshi Sinha romancing Akshay Kumar. It hits the screens June 1.

The 24-year-old has five major films in her kitty right now.

Sonakshi said: "I feel I am blessed. I love what I do and I look forward to doing that every single day. If I have one-two day gap in between, I think what to do? I feel I am lucky - I am doing 'Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2', 'Joker', 'Dabangg 2', 'Son Of Sardar' and 'Lootera'."

Acting happened by chance to her.

"I thought I will never do any movies. I did not know that I would end up doing movies. I feel it is all due to destiny, I don't think there is anything else. I was studying fashion and was almost on the verge of becoming a designer, but acting happened by chance to me. But when a film like 'Dabangg' is offered to you, you can't say no," she said.

The actress gives credit to her "Dabangg" co-star Salman Khan for encouraging her to become an actress.
"The credit absolutely goes to Salman. He always encouraged me. When I was studying fashion, at that time he used to tell me leave all this and become an actress. I was like very huge (overweight) that time and used to ask him how can you see an actress in me? He encouraged me to become fit and join the film industry. I will always be thankful to him," she said.

All eyes on Ash at Cannes today

The day of reckoning for Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is here.

She will make her first Cannes appearance of 2012 this evening and can expect intense scrutiny from Ash-watchers at home in India.
Less than a month ago this picture of Aishwarya emerging from a party at the Ambanis sparked huge debate about her failure to lose her post pregnancy weight.

Ash, who gave birth to daughter Aaradhya on November 16, 2011, was roundly criticised by many for not having shed the extra pounds.

She was also accused of having put on weight after the birth, rather than having lost any. Critics said she was heavier by a few kilos than she was in this picture tweeted by Oprah Winfrey, taken two months before the Ambani party.

Pics: Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif leave for Bangkok!

TIGER GOES TO THAILAND!

Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif left for Bangkok on Tuesday morning. No, there aren’t in the Thai capital for a vacation, but for work.

The two former lovers were spotted at Mumbai airport leaving for Bangkok. Salman Khan loped into the airport wearing a cool Being Human tee and a boot-cut tattered jeans. Katrina Kaif, too, looked cool and casual in jeans, white tank top and a greyish cardigan.

The duo is apparently slated to shoot the climax of their film Ek Tha Tiger in Bangkok. The film has already been shot in Dublin, Istanbul, Cuba and Mumbai.

Just a few days back, Salman and Katrina shot for a song in Mumbai.

Ek Tha Tiger is directed by Kabir Khan. The film’s teaser trailer released earlier this month and generated a lot of curiosity. This is also Salman and Katrina’s first film together after their breakup two years ago.

Ek Tha Tiger is set for an Eid release.

Catch ahead more images of Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif leaving for Bangkok. There didn’t saunter in shoulder-to-shoulder, but had a few paces between them, lest rumourmongers go to town again!

SRK is arrogant, above the law: Anti-smoking watchdog

India's premier anti-tobacco watchdog, National Organisation for Tobacco Eradication (NOTE) has expressed concern over superstar Shah Rukh Khan's arrogant behaviour with which he time and again decides to "trample" the law and smoke in public places. (Read: SRK not at home when Rajasthan cops arrived

"My main grievance is his arrogant demeanour with which he time and again decides to trample the law and smoke in places where he can be viewed and emulated by thousands of viewers when he can smoke privately," said Shekhar Salkar, General Secretary, NOTE.

Salkar said that Shah Rukh's recent smoking in a stadium in Jaipur during IPL indicates 'his careless attitude towards his responsibilities as an influential personality.'

Recommending tobacco eradication counselling for the film star, NOTE has said that smoking is a very powerful addiction and in spite of him repeatedly stating his desire to quit, he hasn't been able to kick the butt.

"In my personal opinion he would never be able to because of his all-knowing haughty persona," Salkar said.

NOTE, in the past, had filed a case against Amitabh Bachchan for promoting smoking through posters of his movie Family. The superstar had admitted his mistake and assured not to repeat it.

"A similar incident happened with Ajay Devgn in Goa and after sending him a letter by NOTE, he was very gracious in accepting his mistake and his recent visits to Goa have not seen him smoking in public," he said.

Responding to a question whether celebrities should be fined more than general public for violating anti-tobacco laws, Salkar said, "morally it looks ethical and feasible but we live in a democratic country in which each citizen is considered equal," adding, "habitual offenders should be given harsher punishments and after three monetary fines in increasing levels. A repeat offence should be punishable for at least one day behind the bars." He said this would deter the often habitual offenders like film stars who usually think they are above the law and for whom the nominal fine is not a big deal.

Two years back, NOTE had suggested that for first-time offenders, the Rs 200 fine levied was reasonable but the second time around it should be Rs 500 and the third time, Rs 1,000.

"In cases involving violation of law in hotel premises or public places, the manager of the hotel should be fined a minimum Rs 5,000 which will ensure a more disciplined approach," Salkar suggested.

Jaipur court has asked Shah Rukh Khan to appear before it on May 26 following complaint by Anand Singh, head of the Jaipur Cricket Academy, who had sought action against the actor under section 5/11 of Rajasthan Prohibition of Smoking Act, 2000, which prohibits smoking in public places.

Satyamev Jayate 3th full episode

A few days after Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan landed in a media storm following his scuffle with Wankhede stadium staff members after the latter allegedly manhandled a group of children following a match, Shah Rukh Khan showed off his affable side recently during another IPL match that was held in Pune.

Sources claim that on knowing that Rowdy Rathore star Akshay Kumar was among the spectators watching the match, a genial Khan immediately went up to him and exchanged pleasantries with the action star and also invited him and his wife Twinkle for a dinner at his palatial house Mannat.

A source close to the Don was quoted saying, "Shah Rukh is in a very happy space as his team (Kolkata Knight Riders) has been beating almost every other team and it was perhaps this happiness that was the main reason behind this gesture."

Incidentally, the two stars were rumoured to have shared cold vibes after SRK'S good friend Farah Khansigned Akshay Kumar to star in Tees Maar Khan without even approaching the King Khan.

Is Salman keeping tabs on arch-enemy SRK?

Here's something to add to the string of controversies surrounding Shah Rukh Khan at the moment. Apparently, at the time when Shah Rukh was busy shooting an ad commercial at Bandra's Mehboob Studio, local resident Salman Khan was spotted making rounds around the landmark property.

Of course Salman could have just been driving around in his white Range Rover along the lanes. Or perhaps he was a little curious to find out the why a host of mediapersons were eagerly waiting at the gate of the studio. We wonder if Salman already had an inkling of his arch enemy's presence in the vicinity.

Within 15 minutes of his first appearance on the road where the studio is situated, Salman was spotted again. His car is said to have slowed down this time to fetch the star a better look beyond the entrance of the studio. And then his driver dropped him off at another location in Bandra for a recording schedule.

Our sources at the star's abode, Galaxy Apartments, told us, "Bhai keeps moving around Bandra." Asked whether Salman knew about SRK's schedule for the day, our source adds, "Bhai ko sab pata hota hai (Bhai knows everything."

This comes close on the heels of SRK's infamous scuffle with MCA officials at the Wankhede Stadium that set off tongues wagging at his apparent misbehaviour with the staff there.

Why Rajinikanth can't romance Deepika

Earlier this week, Deepika Padukone [ Images ] flew to Chennai to shoot a romantic song with Rajinikanth.

The number, an ultra-romantic love duet, was choreographed by Saroj Khan.

And we hear Ms Khan, known to make screen couples sizzle with their chemistry, had planned some scorching hot moves for the two.

But God proposes, Rajinikanth disposes.

Apparently, Rajnikanth [ Images ] has become acutely conscious of his age and the age-difference with his leading lady after the bout of illness last year. The superstar has reportedly asked his director Soundarya [ Images ], who also happens to be his daughter, to modify and change the love scenes.

It took Deepika's intervention to convince the star to cuddle and get lovey-dovey for the song.

A source from the Kochadaiyyan team says, "Rajni Sir wanted the romantic movements and gestures to be watered down. But Deepika insisted on letting them be. She, in fact, made sure Rajni Sir was comfortable."

When quizzed about the romantic song, Kochadaiyyan producer Dr Murli Manohar said, "It's a brilliant song -- A duet with classical undertones. It's not a classical dance number, as wrongly reported in the media. A R Rahman [ Images ] has outdone himself in the song. It's an extremely romantic song with classical elements woven into it. But it isn't a classical dance number."

Aamir Khan's Satyamev Jayate: Doordarshan like imitation of Oprah Show

One had feared this. Satyamev Jayate, the one and a half hour TV debut of Aamir Khan, seems to be a poor imitation of an 'Oprah Show' sans its spontaneity, aplomb, and gripping quality. It looked and sounded like a slightly better produced Doordarshan talk show.

It is an issue-based show and the first episode was a deliberately designed tearjerker. It lacked the edginess, passion, and zeal of a social crusader and in terms of its content and appeal could not transcend beyond a Bollywood celebrity's endorsement of an important issue like female feticide.
It merely establishes a star's association with a heart-rending cause. And if the show is supposed to be driven by Aamir's personal anguish and passion, there was no evidence of that in it. It looked as if the Guru was trying to use his marketing genius and PR skills to promote his favorite cause.

The biggest drawback of the episode was its 'political correctness' and 'in your face' design and structure as if everyone was following a pre-determined script and a plan, from the audience to the host, the director, the editor and the cameramen. It did not have that 'live' feel, which is crucial to the success of these shows. The opening speech of Aamir almost sounded like a Doordarshan's talk show host's introduction to a subject. It was pathetic.

CHECK OUT: Aamir Khan's Satyamvev Jayate audacity of hope

The show even failed to explore the issue beyond the known facts. It was a one-sided dialogue with no room for a counter-point and meaningful discourse. This clearly diluted its probable impact. Instead of a talk show, it turned out to be a TV Infomercial.

The saturation advertising, publicity, and wide telecast of the show covering Star Network and Doordarshan have not helped it find a large audience base. One has serious doubts if there will be enough 'word-of-mouth' recommendations after the inaugural episode to raise the awareness level about it. One also wonders why Aamir Khan is maintaining so much secrecy about the show after the cat is already out of the bag. He should have announced the subject of the next episode in the form of a trailer to get the TV audiences interested in it.

If Aamir expected the media to talk about his show and deliberate extensively over it to publicize the issue, he was mistaken. Why should TV channels that are not part of the Star network promote a Star show and serve its commercial cause? If he really wanted to promote the cause, he should have advised Star to share the feed free of charge to every other channel and have a revenue sharing arrangement with them.

It was a disappointing TV debut that was termed by the perfectionist star as his most ambitious project. He should have worked harder on this with true passion and zeal of a crusader, with less reliance on his marketing and PR skills. He should not have treated this as yet another feather in his cap of successes. He keeps talking about his heart; one could see an overflow of tears in his show, yet there was very little there that looked truly heartfelt. The fact that the incidence of female feticide is less among the poor and illiterate could have been highlighted more. The linkages of growing consumerism and the heinous act could have been established. There was so much more that could have been done instead of singing songs and wasting precious TV time.

Heavenly start for JANNAT 2, TEZZ is a disaster!

As was quite predictable Kunal Deshmukh's Emraan HashmiRandeep Hooda andEsha Gupta starrer, JANNAT 2, has embarked on a superb start almost everywhere, barring the southern circuits. The opening is the third best of the year after AGNEEPATH and HOUSEFULL 2.During the opening day JANNAT 2 has netted nearly 8.75 crore beating the total of MURDER 2 (the best ever Emraan solo) by nearly 2 crores! The latest release from the Bhatt camp is sure to be a clean hit, how big or small only time will tell!

Meanwhile last week's big release, the Priyadarshan directed Anil-Ajay starrer, TEZZ, has been totally rejected as it barely netted 11 crores during the opening week. In fact TEZZ may turn out to be one of the biggest disasters of the year.

The Avengers' Opening Day: $80.5 Million!

The Avengers is getting closer to officially becoming the biggest comic-geek thing ever at the box office.
The Marvel team-up movie grossed $80.5 million on Friday, its studio estimated, Hollywood's second biggest opening day ever.
And, yes, the biggest comic-geek thing ever.
The total, which includes the movie's stunning midnight performance, puts The Avengers behind only the final Harry Potter film, Deathly Hallows Part 2, which debuted with an unreal $91.1 million last summer.
The Avengers' $80.5 million is almost as unreal.
It's nearly $10 million bigger than the next-highest opening day: the $71.6 million posted by Twilight's New Moon.
And it's more than $13 million bigger than the opening days of both The Hunger Games, the year's biggest movie (for now?), and The Dark Knight, the biggest comic-geek thing ever (until now).
The question now is how high can The Avengers, already at about $415 million worldwide, go yet?
Can it surpass the now-perhaps modest expectations of a $150 million opening weekend? Can it go all the way past The Dark Knight ($158.4 million)? Can it go all the way past Deathly Hallows Part 2 ($169.2 million)?
Can it become the biggest thing ever, period?
At this point, it's probably best not to underestimate the Hulk.
Here's a complete rundown of the top 10 all-time opening days, as compiled per BoxOfficeMojo.com stats:
  1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, $91.1 million
  2. The Avengers, $80.5 million
  3. The Twilight Saga: New Moon, $72.7 million
  4. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn—Part 1, $71.6 million
  5. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, $68.5 million
  6. The Hunger Games, $67.3 million
  7. The Dark Knight, $67.2 million
  8. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, $62 million
  9. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, $61.7 million
  10. Spider-Man 3, $60 million

Busy Raj Kundra reserves time for Shilpa, baby

New Delhi, May 5 (IANS) Actress Shilpa Shetty is due to give birth next month and is going to be in for some much-needed pampering. Her businessman husband Raj Kundra is taking a long break from work to be by her side before, during and after her delivery.

This despite the fact that his hands are full with projects. He co-owns Indian Premier League (IPL) team Rajasthan Royals and the matches are currently on. He has also collaborated with Sanjay Dutt on a martial arts championship called the Super Fight League.

But that hasn't taken him away from a sabbatical.

"My wife's expecting now and this is the most important phase of my life and I don't want to be very busy. So I have decided I am not going to go on anymore cricket matches and watch it at home together with Shilpa," Kundra told IANS.

"Once she delivers, I want to spend another month at home for my baby before I get back into business," he added.

A visibly excited Kundra says he is looking forward to the new addition in the family and has started preparing for fatherhood.

"Lots of preparations are going on. I am nervous, but I am ready and excited. Everytime she (Shilpa) has a doctor's appointment, we go together, scans get done and we see this little baby moving," he said.

He is not bothered about the child's sex.

"We don't know if it's a boy or a girl, but whosover it is, we are looking forward to it," added Kundra, who married Shilpa in 2009.

Salman Khan, Vivek Oberoi in 'Sher Wars'?

Megastar Salman Khan may soon have competition regarding who is going to be the ‘tiger’ in Bollywood.

While Salman is shooting for Yash Raj Films’ Ek Tha Tiger and Sohail Khan is reportedly planning Sher Khan with his brother, the actor’s old-time ‘frenemy’ Vivek Oberoi, is said to have gone ahead and signed on a film called Sher this week, to be directed by Soham Shah.

Whether Vivek will play the title role in it or not is yet to be ascertained.

But Vivek who is already on a high with five films namely Krrish 3, Kismat Love Paisa Dilli, Zilla Ghaziabad, Jayanta Bhai and a Masti sequel under his belt, is reported to begin shooting for Sher this month itself.

When asked Bollywood PR specialist Dale Bhagwagar about these ‘star wars’ likely to turn into ‘Sher wars’ in the media, he brushed it off saying, “What difference does it make? Indian media has seen a paradigm shift in the last five years. Media is a business now and all so-called ‘wars’ are just part of good selling.”

“Why single out Salman Khan or Vivek Oberoi? Bollywood is a very big and extended family. There is space for everyone. Yahan sab sher hai!” he said.

Box office update: 'Jannat 2' off to a flying start!

Emraan Hashmi’s success streak continues at box office with this Friday’s release Jannat 2. The film is off to a flying start and could be the third biggest opener of 2012.

Despite a plagiarism controversy that cropped up just days before the release of the Kunal Deshmukh-directed Jannat 2, the film has found takers at ticket windows. The audience response to the film was excellent in western India, particularly Gujarat and Rajasthan. The response in Delhi, where the film’s story is set, was good and ranged between 60 percent to 70 percent.

The film has released on 1975 screens across India and the average occupancy is around 70 percent, which is good.

The reviews by critics have been mixed, but the audience reaction is positive so far, with the exception of family audiences that were slightly put off by the use of abuses in the film’s dialogues.

Though it’s a tad early to comment, but chances are that Jannat 2 will emerge the third biggest opener of 2012 after Agneepath and Housefull 2

Meanwhile, the last week’s release Tezz has been rejected at box office. FLOP. On the other hand, Vicky Donor completed its two-week run at theatres on a promising note and is still pulling the crowds in its third week. HIT.

The coming week would see multiple releases: IshaqzaadeDangerous Ishhq, Love Recipe and The Forest.
